Friends for Folks pairs “unadoptable” dogs from shelters and humane organizations with state correctional inmates educated as dog trainers. Over the course of about 11 weeks, the dogs become so well trained that they can be placed with special needs individuals and organizations.
The program is a win-win-win for the Friends” (the dogs), the “Folks” (new owners), and the inmates themselves.
In addition to the inmate dog training program, Friends for Folks has developed a separate program to help the children of inmates.
